Think Like A Journalist Quote

“Blogging is to writing what extreme sports are to athletics: more free-form, more accident-prone, less formal, more alive. It is, in many ways, writing out loud.”

For most of human history, all published writing had been carefully inspected, edited, and approved.

In the last decade, blogging has turned the publishing world on its head. A blog allows you to write and publish anything, from anywhere, and have it be immediately available to billions of people all around the world.

This means that blogging is uniquely “alive”, as Andrew Sullivan points out in The Atlantic. I, for one, am happy to embrace the chaos and vitality.

Top Tips How Blogging Changed My Life, Tim Denning

Blogging is not about you.

Use personal experiences but don’t be obsessed with yourself.

Blog, at least, two to three times a week.

Make sure you share your content across all your social media channels. Pick a few that speak to your brand.

Talk in the voice of your channel; change the angle. For example, if it’s too personal people might not read it on LinkedIn.

Comment back in real-time on your blog posts.

Don’t use only your own blog. Blog where there are already millions of followers to gain your audience and create your own influence.

Don’t blog on too many websites. Choose three blog websites.

Pick amazing photos for your blog. But don’t spend too long to find them. Avoid stock images. Make it personal. Take your own photos even with just your smartphone.

I’m going to give everybody the magic secret…
